GUN VIOLENCE: WHAT’S A ROOKIE mom TO DO?

president Obama is said to read ten letters from the public each day. I really hope he reads mine today, but I invite you to send one, too, increasing the odds that gun violence and control stays top of mind, all day, every day, until we see progress.

Here’s the letter I sent president Obama. feel free to copy and paste into this online form at WhiteHouse.gov:

Dear Mr. President,

In January you were as disgusted by our nation’s lack of gun control as I am. I had high hopes when I listened to your speech on the gun violence epidemic in America and was so excited about your executive actions for gun control. but it’s been almost six months and nothing has been passed. Ikke noget. and while the bills are stuck in Congress, people are killing each other.

What happened in Orlando that ended with 50 people dead might have been prevented if your gun laws were in place–especially the banning of automatic rifles like the one used by the terrorist. Your automobile analogy on how the industry made major changes to lower car deaths was brilliant, but we need more than analogies from you on this.

Please don’t leave the White house without leaving a positive impact on gun control. because it is not enough to be upset about another mass shooting. Something must be done. Please use these last few months in office to set up the necessary barriers to keep guns out of the hands of possible killers.

This is my friend Victoria’s nephew, Noah. He was killed in the Sandy Hook shooting.

I didn’t obsess over my words in these letters. I copied much of what a friend had already written. This is urgent. I wanted to get it done.

Here’s the letter I sent Vice president Joe Biden. Again, use my words if it helps you get the job done. same form:

Dear Vice President,

I’m writing to request that you don’t stop thinking about Orlando. about Sandy Hook. Virginia Tech. about our gun problem in America.

As the point person for enacting Obama’s gun control initiatives in January, you are the person to whom we are looking for answers. We have all been waiting to see the outcome of that speech put into action. and we see nothing.

Please don’t make me fear sending my children to school thinking they could be shot, or fear that my friends and family members could enter a restaurant, get on a train, or simply live their lives and be held hostage by someone with too easy access to a gun.

Please continue to be vigilant on this issue for the remainder of your term; you’re on the right side of history, and I’m with you!

Here’s the letter I sent attorney general Loretta Lynch via the Justice department website:

AG Lynch,

Please ensure that president Obama’s gun control policies that he discussed in January are enacted and institutionalized in real, lasting ways. It has been almost six months and during that time thousands have been killed due to gun violence. Last week’s terrifying shooting in Orlando is a rallying cry for this issue. Please make this hate-filled Orlando shooting the last one we have to read about. You said your goal is to position the Dept. of Justice to carry on in all these issues long after you and your team have moved on. Well, part of that goal is to make sure gun control issues pass. We, the people, support you and plead with you to make gun control a priority.

New book Teaches Pre-schoolers about Bullying Prevention

https://apis.google.com/js/plusone.jsBullying is a big problem in us schools today.  children that are bullied suffer emotionally and are more likely to develop low self esteem and depression.  experts believe that the younger the children are when bullying prevention is taught, the better.  Teaching  younger children about bullying prevention, as well about the social/emotional skills is important to the development of “emotional intelligence,” which lays a foundation that promotes the capability for empathy, which can grow throughout their school years.

“Many children experience the beginnings of bullying behavior for the first time while in daycare, preschool, or kindergarten,” explains Karen Goldberg, a licensed clinical social worker who specializes in working with parents and children, including adolescents. “The groundwork for how to deal with and prevent bullying behavior is laid early on. The sooner children are given tools for preventing bullying, the more effective they will be.”

Peter J. Goodman,  is an author,  who has been working with Goldberg toward creating tools to teach young children, usually between preschool to around the third grade. His new book, “We’re All different but We’re All Kitty Cats” (dreamBIG Press, 2012),  teaches children about accepting differences, bullying awareness and prevention and empathy. “The research shows that bullying can begin as early as three years old,” added Peter Goodman. “If it’s not addressed at that age, it will likely worsen in terms of intensity and effects as children grow up. The sooner we address the issue, the better off everyone will be, even the children who may do the bullying.”

“We’re all different But, We’re All Kitty Cats, first Day of School,” is about a young cat named Carlos.  On the first day of school the teacher asks all the kitty cats to share two things about themselves.  When it  is Carlos’ turn he says that he likes to read books and he has no fur. some of the other kitty cats in class laugh at Carlos and tease him about not having any fur. two other kitty cats stand up to the bully and walk with Carlos all the way home. At home Carlos’ mother tells him that he is special and that every kitty cat in his class is different but they are all kitty cats. Carlos returns to school the next day feeling better about himself and his differences.

My three-year-old son enjoyed this story.  “We are all different but We’re All Kitty Cats, first Day of School,” would make a wonderful addition to any home or school library.  You can purchase this book online at Amazon.com or Barnes & Noble Booksellers. Can We remain Focused in Faith?

“God does not have problems, only plans,” were the words Corrie ten grow said when a clerical error allowed her to be released from a Nazi concentration camp one week before all women prisoners her age were executed. After her release from the horror of the Ravensbruck concentration camp, Corrie continued to live a life of faith with a amazing reliance on God. This was the same faith and strength that her family had, when they hid Jews from Nazi terror in their home in Haarlem, Holland. during world war II, her family home became a place of refuge, a hiding place, for Jew’s and those being hunted down by the Nazi army.

How Can We remain Focused in Faith?

When I was new in this walk of faith, I was drawn to read the words of Corrie ten Boom. With amazement I concerned love and admire the inner strength and faith of this woman. I wanted to have a small portion of what she seemed to have within her. I wanted to learn much more about the heart of the woman who gave herself wholly into the hands of her Saviour. Her chilling and horrendous situations make my trials miniscule in comparison. how can we have delight in the midst of our circumstances?

Then I think about a smuggled Bible, that became a source of blessing and strength for Corrie while incarcerated. This Bible that she miraculously hid, was used to hold worship services and numerous women concerned know the Lord Jesus Christ as their Saviour. Yes, Corrie had her eyes focused on the Lord and not on the situations around her. remember when Peter looked at situations rather than focusing his eyes on Christ?

And he said, Come. and when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. but when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. and immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt? (Matthew 14: 29-31)

We cannot keep one eye on Christ and one eye on the situations around us. We should keep both eye’s focused directly ahead on Christ that this world may not steal our “inner” joy. The world may make us unhappy, resulting in heartache and tears, but it can never steal the delight in our heart that Christ gives as a man or woman of faith. This mindset is what Corrie ten grow had mastered. She had set her focus, practically like a pilot sets the plane on auto-pilot. She stayed on course and did allow her eye’s to veer off course. Oh, how I long to master this focus!

I pray that the things of this world will never be successful in diverting your focus away from Christ.

    My eyes are ever toward the Lord.  Psalms 25:15

Even in her death, Corrie ten grow finished her journey in this world with a special blessing. For I have read that according to the Jewish tradition, only very blessed people are given the special privilege of dying on their birthday. Corrie ten grow died on her 91st birthday, April 15th 1983.  I  thank the Lord our God for women of strong faith who left a fantastic legacy to strengthen and encourage us.

Play Choo Choo i en vaskeri

efter min mening, at have yderligere vaskeri er virkelig en livredder. Jeg kan gøre Hella -vaskeri såvel som Holden kan trække det ud af kurven for mig. Fantastisk spil, ikke? Whitney forsikrer mig om, at omkring 12 måneder vil han begynde at sætte vaskeriet tilbage i kurven. Jeg vil tro det da. I mellemtiden har jeg produceret et vaskerietogspil, der lader ham blive indeholdt, mens jeg venlige såvel som fold. Det er sjovt for en af os!

Besættende over en “gå ud og leg” baggård

flyttede vi ind i et ny-gammelt større hus for et år siden. Mellem at have et tredje barn og mit arbejde fra hjemmet, ønskede vi meget mere plads til at leve og trække vejret. For ikke at nævne, at vi ville være i stand til at have venner over meget mere komfortabelt.

Øverst på min liste over krav var, at vi har et godt udendørs rum, god indendørs og udendørs flow og en barfodet baghave. Ha ha! Efter at have flyttet ind, havde vores nye gamle hjem ingen af ​​disse ting: i stedet var der brudt glas, rustne negle, mudderhuller, vilde løg, useriøse bambus, faldende hegn, byggemateriale, gamle vinduer, et stort vægspejl og to toiletter. Ikke sjov.

Jeg ville virkelig sende min fem- og syv-årige ud for at spille og sidde udenfor med småbarnet uden at sige, “Nej!” Hvert andet minut.

Min kammerat Jeanine er en talentfuld landskabsarkitekt i sit virkelige job og var parat til at gøre noget brainstorming med mig i bytte for, at favoriserer blev navngivet senere. Hun udarbejdede skitser og skurede Pinterest og Sunset Magazine for så mange utrolige ideer, at det var svært at indsnævre det mellem hendes Woodland Fantasy, Asian Escape og Berkeley Craftsman Designs.

Jeg ønskede irrationelt at afslutte arbejdet i tide til at kaste en fødselsdags overraskelse BBQ til min ægtefælle (sidste weekend) og ikke spilde et øjeblik af Summerfun -tid.

Hver gang vores baghaven mand ville stille et spørgsmål om detaljer, viste jeg ham bare dette foto (i en lille version på min iPhone), og vi gjorde vores bedste for at efterligne det.

Camping med et lille barn

I tilfælde af bedste timing modtog jeg dette indlæg fra Christina, ligesom jeg pakket for at tage min familie på en modificeret campingtur. Medbring en batteridrevet lydmaskine. Dette er en ting, jeg ikke tænkte på, men ønskede, at jeg havde. Campingpladser er høje! Jeg var ikke klar over denne pre-baby, sandsynligvis fordi jeg var den høje, der kæmpede den kl. 10:30 om natten. Denne afviklingstid ville sandsynligvis være blevet skåret i halvdelen, hvis vi havde haft en lydproducent til at drukne din mennesker omkring os omkring os.

Giv det tid. Det tog Robby yderligere 30 minutter at rydde op for lur/seng. Vi gjorde vores normale rutine med bøger og sange i teltet, og så tog det ham den ekstra tid at faktisk lukke øjnene.

Desværre for os er Sawyer’s regnstifter mindst 2 størrelser for små, så jeg er Sol på det tip, men jeg fik fat i nogle brune fodpyjamas til at skjule snavs. Jeg har en gammel iPod touch, der kan vare os i løbet af vores 4-nætters udflugt som en hvid støjproducent, hvis jeg indstiller timeren til at falme ud efter sengetid. Når jeg taler om sengetid, på det tidspunkt af dagen, er jeg ofte ude af tålmodighed, så jeg tilføjer 30 minutter til mit regelmæssigt planlagte brudspunkt.

Da vi sover i støvede telthytter i et klima, hvor regn er meget usandsynlig, er min taktik forskellig fra Christinas (jeg bringer en rejse krybbe, yo). Men jeg har en lunch, at hvis jeg campede med hende, ville jeg tage hendes anbefalinger ideelle ned ad linjen.

5 Honey-Dos til børnehaven

Mens jeg havde travlt med at dræbe min første baby, søgte min ægtefælle desperat måder at blive involveret og bidrage med. Desværre kunne han spise al den folsyre, han ønskede, og det ville ikke hjælpe fosteret med at udvikle sig bedre.

Her er nogle mindre hjemmeforbedringsprojekter, som en værdifuld partner eller bedsteforælder-til-være kan optage sig selv.

Installer en dæmper på børnehave -lys – Jeg værdsætter denne funktion hver dag. Når du har brug for at overbevise din baby om, at 2 AM er “søvnig tid”, vil dit argument være meget mere overbevisende, hvis rummet ikke er blaring med lys. Mine børn er store nu, 3 og 5, og de sover stadig med lyset på “Orange”, hvilket indikerer kun en lille smule på.

Mal rummet med lav-VOC-maling-Uanset om din fantasy-børnehave er pastel- eller elektrisk grøn, skal du vælge en maling, der udsætter mindre giftige dampe. Sluk ned vandvarmeren – sørg for, at skoldningsvand ikke kommer ud af badekaret ved at forhindre temperaturen i at nå et farligt niveau. Der er en urskive på vandvarmeren, der angiver, hvor varmt vandet får lov til at få. Indstil det til 120 grader.

Hang Black Out Shades-der er billige, øjeblikkelige, kaldet Redi Shades (en 6-pack til lignende fyrre bukke), som du simpelthen kan fastgøre under eller over dine eksisterende vinduesbelægninger. Eller linje dine eksisterende gardiner med et ekstra lag sort-out stof.

Tone ned ad din dørklokke – min lyder som en telefon fra 1960’erne. Ikke godt til at slappe af babyer eller mødre. Skat, hvis du læser dette, vil jeg gerne have en blød og blid dørklokke før Halloween.
